NEW YORK, Oct. 20, 2026 - Asymptote Labs, building the runtime infrastructure layer for AI agents, today announced an oversubscribed $5.5 million seed round led by Tower Research Ventures, the venture arm of Tower Research Capital, with participation from Lytical Ventures, 1984 Ventures, and South Park Commons. The company will use the funding to expand engineering, product development, hiring, and go-to-market.

Enterprises are moving toward a world of infinite AI agents, operating across employee workstations, cloud environments, and business workflows. These agents can access sensitive data, modify code, and take actions across critical systems, yet security and engineering teams lack the visibility and controls needed to understand their behavior, manage risk, and keep pace with adoption.

Co-founded by Justin D'Souza and Shukan Shah, former early engineers at social engineering defense company Doppel, Asymptote is addressing a critical infrastructure gap with a shared runtime data layer that gives enterprises real-time visibility, intelligence, and control over AI agents across tools and environments.

At the core is Beacon, Asymptote's MIT-licensed, open-source telemetry layer for AI agents. Beacon captures agent activity across Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and more than 20 other agent harnesses, then normalizes that activity into a common runtime data model that extends the OpenTelemetry standard. This gives organizations unified visibility into all agent activity while keeping ownership of their data. For developers, Beacon also compounds knowledge across coding sessions, enabling learnings from previous work to carry forward rather than disappear when a session ends.

“AI agents are becoming a new operating layer inside every company, but the infrastructure to understand and control them hasn't caught up,” said Justin D'Souza, co-founder and CEO of Asymptote Labs. “We saw this problem firsthand when building agents at Doppel. As companies deploy thousands of agents across their infrastructure, their runtime data will become one of the most valuable assets they own. We built Beacon as open source because we believe every organization should own that data, and Asymptote enables them to act on it.”

Beacon has emerged as a fast-growing open-source project among developers and enterprises seeking to turn fragmented AI agent activity into actionable intelligence. GitHub stars grew more than 460% in September, and the project reached No. 3 on GitHub's global trending repositories. That developer momentum is translating into enterprise demand, with security teams already using Beacon and Asymptote's enterprise platform in production.

Asymptote is initially focused on securing AI agents at runtime through real-time detection and response. Built on Beacon, its enterprise platform intercepts live agent activity and enforces policy-driven guardrails at both the prompt and tool levels, steering agents away from unsafe behavior and blocking risky actions before they occur. A growing library of detections surfaces actionable findings within minutes of deployment, covering data leakage, insider threats, AI supply chain risks, and inefficient agent workflows. Security teams at regulated enterprises have been among Beacon's earliest and most active adopters.

That emphasis builds on the founders' experience developing security infrastructure at scale. At Doppel, D'Souza built and scaled the company's real-time machine learning detection platform from processing 1 million to more than 1 billion domains per day, while Shah led SOC workflow automation and pioneered agentic threat-hunting infrastructure to automate security investigations. The founding team also brings expertise from leading security research firm Trail of Bits.

After Doppel, they joined the South Park Commons Founder Fellowship. Angel backers include Doppel co-founders Kevin Tian and Rahul Madduluri and Socket founder Feross Aboukhadijeh.

While security is the starting point, Asymptote sees a much broader opportunity. As enterprises deploy more AI agents, a shared telemetry layer will become essential to understanding their behavior and improving their performance. That same layer can help engineering teams improve reliability, platform teams govern adoption, and FinOps teams optimize AI spending. Over time, the data and learnings accumulated from agent activity can also power more capable, self-improving agents.

As enterprises move toward deploying AI agents at scale, investors see runtime visibility and control becoming an essential part of the enterprise technology stack.

“What gave us confidence in Justin and Shukan was how clearly they saw the infrastructure gap emerging around enterprise AI agents,” said Lucas Nelson, Managing Partner at Lytical Ventures. “Every company will run multiple agent harnesses across teams and environments, yet there is still no shared telemetry layer that gives organizations a complete view of that activity. Asymptote is building that system of record.”

Tower Research Ventures first discovered Asymptote through Beacon's open-source traction and is now evaluating the technology within the trading firm's own security organization.

“We found the Asymptote team through Beacon, and it was immediately clear they understood the security risks of AI agents better than anyone we'd seen,” said Jared Young, Director of Venture Capital at Tower Research Ventures. “Now our security team is putting Beacon through its paces on our own endpoints, because as agents take on real work, visibility and control over what they do can't be an afterthought.”

For 1984 Ventures, Beacon's developer adoption points to an opportunity that extends beyond security.

“As early investors in Cline, we've seen this kind of developer pull before,” said Ramy Adeeb, Founder at 1984 Ventures. “Agent activity is exploding across harnesses, while the context and learnings from those sessions stay fragmented. Beacon's recent inflection reinforced our belief that Asymptote can become foundational infrastructure for teams building self-improving agent workflows.”

About Asymptote Labs

Asymptote Labs is the runtime infrastructure layer for AI agents. Its open-source project Beacon captures and normalizes agent activity across harnesses and environments, giving organizations a unified view of their AI agents. Since launching in May 2026, Beacon was named one of Help Net Security's hottest open-source cybersecurity tools of June 2026 and reached No. 3 on GitHub's global trending repositories in September 2026. Asymptote's enterprise platform builds on Beacon with real-time detection, response, and governance.

Asymptote is SOC 2 Type II compliant, headquartered in New York City, and backed by Tower Research Ventures, Lytical Ventures, 1984 Ventures, and South Park Commons. Learn more at asymptotelabs.ai.
